My Name Is Snickerdoodle: 2 more things

2 more things

that are keeping me busy the last couple of days. For the last few years I have had this immense urge to grocery shop the coupon way. But I was saving only pennies and it was becoming more of a hassle to dig to the bottom of my purse to find the 2"x2" thin coupon that was only $.30 off anyways. I found out very recently that I have been going about this saving $ business completely the wrong way. Ian's cousin, Shalene, had been doing this for a while now and seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. I got to talking to some new friends as well and they have been "couponing" for a while. When I asked any of them about it, their faces lit up and they told me how much they saved just that day. I got Shalene to give me the complete scoop on this "grocery cart cult" and all I have to say is...WOW!!! It is involved! However, I am so excited to just jump right in and do it. I had Ian get the double Sunday paper yesterday and he ended getting me 4. I am completely loaded. Yesterday I made my first coupon purchase....yeah I know you are all so thrilled...at CVS. If I hadn't work the instore deals with my magic coupons, I would have spent $40.40 on two tub of toothpast, 2 Rimmel mascaras and 4 Revlon nail polishes. BUT, I walked away with spending $8.94!!! Okay, I know that nail polish isn't going to help out my food storage, but it felt so good to save so much money. I can see how people get all crazed out and just buy whatever, but if you stick to it and buy practical...this is an awesome thing! I am actually excited for my junk mail to come. You know, the store fliers that you usually just toss in the trash...Those are golden now! So all of you lovely blog readers that live this lifestyle...come out of the wood work and let me know all your secrets...or just your best tips! I will keep you updated on my fun new hobby.

And for all of you who are still reading this boring post, the second thing that is keeping me busy is I am throwing a Twilight party! I have kept myself up for the last 3 nights just scheming the great fun that will be had. I got some great ideas from Ian's aunt Ann and cousin Breanna so thanks to you for the inspiration. About 2 weeks ago I was driving along trying to come up with a good date that would work for most when the fantastic thought came to me. When is Bella's birthday? HELLOOOOOO September 13th which happens to be a Saturday! You really could not get more perfect than that...well Bella, Edward, Jacob and the whole Cullen clan could show up. But don't be silly...they are imaginary! Perfection! The invitations are sent and some of the party goods are already purchased. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! I just hope everyone can come and enjoy the (insanity) fun! Alice has got some competition...now let's just see if I can do all this using coupons!!! *Ignore the fact that I talk about these characters as if they are real!

  1. When we were young and living in Colorado, we used to get the grocery store savings cards and used the coupons that came in the Sunday circulars. We always made a list of what we wanted to buy when we got to the store and stuck to it, being to able to shop for two weeks at a time. I always looked on the shelves for the yellow rewards stickers from the grocery store that would result in money being taken off my total in the end. It was so worth it as my husband was a very low rank in the Army and it was cheaper than shopping in the military commissary.

  2. I love bargain shopping at Old Navy!! Today I got a dress, shorts, a shirt and capris for $40, when I would have payed at least $80 for all if they weren't on clearance!

  12. I sent you an email warning you that I migth be a blog stalker...so here is my first comment.

There is a website called Grocerygame.com and it is a HUGE help when it comes to finding the best deals....at first it a bit confusing to look at...but once you stare at it for a while it makes sense. It costs $1 for the trial...and if you find it helps, you can get it for like $5 a store for two months or something like that...and it helps to know it helps save money...so rationalizing the cost of it is easier....
