My Name Is Snickerdoodle: Crystal Ball

Crystal Ball

Saturday we headed off to brave the Costco crowd to stock up on a few necessities. Saturday also happens to be the main sample day...any pregnant ladies heaven on earth! As we neared the produce a lady was sampling mini candy bars in the spirit of Halloween being around the corner.

As I take my little Snickers and give the lady a courteous smile she blurts out, "Let me guess? 8 months along?"

Me: "Yes, I have 4 weeks left." Thinking: That's a pretty good estimate...she could have easily guess 17 months along because I am ginormous!

Her: "And it's a boy isn't it?"

Me: "Yes it is"

Her: "And this is your second boy." Statement, not a question.

Me: "Um, yes." Thinking: Holy crap! How does she know this because Liam is with his uncle Logan on the other side of the store.

Her: "Come here."

In which I ignorantly obey this stranger...

She puts both gloved hands (thank goodness for sanitation requirements when sampling food!) on either side of my belly and I am practically waiting for her to close her eyes and chant something in a gypsy language...

Her: "Your baby will come on his due date. Start walking two days before to help bring on the labor."

I am in a daze, a trance if you will. (Hehehe) All I do is blink my eyes, smile at her politely and pathetically say..."You don't think he will come early?" In which she shakes her finger at me and sternly says..."Definitely not...maybe even a little later."

At this point all I want to do is take her tray of candy and run, well, waddle away. Ian is standing a little ways off with a huge grin on his face as if this is true entertainment! He gently puts his arm around me and reminds me that the baby will come when he is ready.

Needless to say I am starting to walk 4 weeks early just to show that crazy candy Costco lady!

  1. Where was that crazy candy last time to predict your last birth? Maybe she was busy cutting up candy bars to hand out. Or, where was she when the doctor told you 99percent Liam was girl. What a great story.

  2. Oh that is SO funny!!

Reminds of my first pregnancy! We were stationed in Japan and a japanese woman walked up to me and asked me if I was going to "boobie feed" my baby because I had good boobies... as she lifting up my shirt for the world to see! Talk about total embarrassment!

  3. That is so funny! You will go early just to show her! :) Can't wait!

  4. That is stinkin hilarious! Ian was just watching? AHAHAHA! I love it! You should've taken the rest of the candy...I think you deserve it. I never understood why a pregnant an invitation to touch the belly. It's so weird! On that note, I think you'll go at least a day early just to show her:)
You're lookin super cute by the way! Best of luck in the coming weeks:)

  5. Oh that is too funny! Both my babies were several days late, and still didn;t come on their own. In fact, I would still be pregnant if I didn't have my water broken!

Hang in there girl! You're in the home stretch! (And I know you don't want to hear this, but Ian is so right!)

  6. Wow- the sample people at Costco are also Psychics? Who knew? She must not be getting enough business and needed a side job. That is a fantastic story though! Scrapbook that one for sure! Love you!

  7. now maybe it's just the polynesian in me BUT i totally would listen. some women are just baby whisperers!!! seriously. it's like they just have this sixth sense about it. when i was pregnant with Allie and everyone was here for aunty Mili's funeral, the little old ladies would tell me that I was gonna have my baby very soon and to get things ready. well, i said -i have 4 more weeks! a whole month!
yeah, we know how that turned out. Allie was 3 WEEKS EARLY!!! so now when the old ladies talk, I listen. theyve seen a lot of babies and some of them "just know". ;) that's my story.

love ya!! rub the belly and tell baby Owen I LOVE HIM.

  8. walk on girl! walk on... those ladies are CRAZY! One told my Coco that she wanted to eat her up... but it wasn't in the sweet old lady way - totally freaky!
