My Name Is Snickerdoodle: Butter Beer Floats

Butter Beer Floats

At the beginning of the school year, the whole first grade made a goal for each student to read 3,000 pages by the time school was over.  Liam thought that was a lot, and so did I, but we both set the goal together.

He was then challenged by some family friends to see if he could read 5,000 pages and they would pay him a whopping $40 if he did it.  He was completely committed when he knew he could get some spending money!

We worked hard almost every day for months to get any reading in.  It was so fun to see how much he was improving the more we read.  Finally, 3 days before school let out, he reached his 5,000 goal on the dot!  He couldn't have been more thrilled and neither could my husband and I.  It was fabulous to see how much confidence he had in himself of actually making such a large goal and then achieving it.  He got his $40 from our family friends, a special mother/son date night out and then his most prized engraved trophy from his favorite uncle Logan.
This summer, I knew I wanted to continue the reading buzz so we made a deal with Liam that if he read the first Harry Potter book (with our help, of course) we would celebrate with a mini family HP party.  Every night, he was excited to read a new chapter and reach yet another goal.  Last week we finished and got to party it up Hogwarts style.  The boys made some wands, I drew glasses on everyone, (including Slone) and of course had fun party food complete with Butterbeer Floats.  Not your typical HP beverage, but I just felt like turning it into a float.  And I'm so glad I did!  Yum, so yum!  Try it for yourself and let me know what you think!
