Call Me Kooky {Edited}

Or some might call it obsessed or crazy! I have been really trying to get into couponing so I can save money and also stock pile our food storage items…because all we have at this point is water! It’s taken me a while to get the hang of it, but now I love it and don’t leave the store crying! It’s definitely a mini part time job, but I don’t mind because it’s fun to get the “deals”. When Ian’s cousin, Shalene, came over last summer to show me the ropes she brought over her fabulous system. It was a zipper binder with baseball card holders, all organized and looking snazzy. At the time I didn’t have the money to invest in something like that (we were in a crunch) so I settled with the two accordion folders we already owned. One for edible items and the other for household coupons. It was working just fine, until I got my stash of coupons over months and months of collecting. Plus it was taking me too long to shuffle through them to find the one I wanted. So, thanks to our lovely tax refund (in which we paid off some debt indulged our selves in a few other fun toys) I purchased my own fancy coupon system. It still needs a little work, but for now I am so happy with it! Thanks, Shalene!

Fancy Coupon System

  • Zipper binder (any kind will work) I bought mine at Walmart for $12.00. They had a ten dollar one, but it was in a hideous sea foam green color that just I couldn’t stomach. I was very tempted to just use a regular binder I had at hope, but then I had visions of me tripping or Liam throwing it and coupons flying everywhere!
  • 2-3 packages of baseball card holders (at Walmart, I found mine by the baseball cards. Usually next to one of the middle registers next to the magazine isle)
  • 2 packages self adhesive folder tabs
  • clear page protectors

My categories are (customize yours to what you would use and know)
Air fresheners
Baby
Baking/Seasonings
Batteries
Boxed
Canned
Cereal/Breakfast
Cleaning Supplies
Cold Case
Condiments
Dental Care
Deoderant
Drinks
Frozen
Hair Care/Soap
Kitchen
Laundry
Lotion
MakeUp
Meat
Medicine
Razors
Snacks
Toilet Paper
Toiletries

I was limited on my tabs so I combined some of the categories. So if you have more than me you will need to buy two packages of tabs. At the beginning I have six other tabs for the stores that I shop at…Albertson’s, CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart. Each has it’s own clear page protector and if I get instore coupons at that store, they have their own baseball card holder for those coupons. Once I go through the circulars for each store and pull the right coupons for them, I can then put them in the page protector for that store. Then I am even more on task when I go to the store. When I used my according files, I had legal envelopes that I used for each store, but I was always dropping them. My folder has a fun pocket on the inside that I can keep all the ads in one place. It also came with a zippered pencil case that I can store my scissors, stapler and some pens. This way everything is in one secure place and I can just grab it when I go shopping!

That is so cool! I have been collecting coupons from the papers and the websites you gave me so I hope to really get into this soon. It seems kind of fun. I HATE grocery shopping…it stresses me out! So hopefully this will help. Thanks Amy!

I have been trying to figure out the {world of couponing} for a while, there are people who have some serious skill with it. I saw a lady at the store once that used a similar system with the baseball card dividers. I love your post though, it makes me want to stop by the store today and get all set up. Thanks!

That’s awesome! I have a little expandable file that fits into my purse so I can carry it everywhere..I’m always on the lookout for a deal. Once I get to doing “big girl” shopping, I will totally do this!

This is the BEST coupon shopping source I have found. Part of a network on food storage, storing it, using it and buying it. A great resource. I’ve learned so much here!
