Shamefully proud!

Yesterday I went and got my instate driver’s license. Not too exciting so you think! But I have lived here for 3 years and still had an out of state license. Lame, I know. I had to take a written test which I thought would be a breeze because it was open book and with a little common knowledge I could pass with flying colors. I couldn’t be more wrong! They were 25 of the most random questions. And nothing to do with regular every day driving either. Some had to do with commercial driving, government licenses and large hauling trucks. Half way through the test (that has now taken me almost 20 minutes to look up) Liam starts screaming his head off because he has a dirty diaper and is extremely tired. I try to keep him calm without taking him out of his carseat, but he wants nothing with that. I toss the manual aside and just guess on the rest of the questions. When I take it back up to be checked, the guy chuckles and says,”Ma’am, you BARELY passed the test.” I reply to him with a screaming baby at my side, “Well, good thing for barely…where do I get my license?” All said with a sweet smile on my face, feeling the embarrassment rising in my chest. The whole process took me almost an hour and it was all redeemed by a fabulous license picture that will be permanentally there for all to see…at least for the next five years until it expires!

Oh there are some good things about being blind and not being able to drive. I will add this to my list.
Not having to take driving tests
