Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Generously butter a 9 inch ceramic cast iron skillet.
In a small mixing bowl whisk together oil, egg, milk and sugar together. Set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl whisk together flour, cornmeal, salt and baking powder.
Slowly mix in wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
Stir until just combined. Do not over mix.
Pour into the skillet and spread out evenly.
Bake for 20-25 minutes. The top and edges should be lightly golden brown and the center should come out clean when a toothpick is inserted.
Cool slightly and serve.
