Classic Apple Crisp

As we head in to cooler weather…well…if you live in Texas we are headed into cool-ish weather, I start craving all those comfort foods.  Warm soups, casseroles, turkey with all the starchy sides swimming in gravy, and hot-out-of-the-oven desserts!

One of those desserts is any sort of fruit crisp or cobbler.  I love the idea of a hot dessert with a cold scoop (or two) of ice cream melting away on it.  My husband, on the other hand, is not a fan.  He’s a good sport and will try a bites.

Then one day I made another crisp as my last resort to finally change my husband’s opinion and to hopefully give myself a little hope that the perfect crisp did in fact exist.  I didn’t say a word as he picked up the spoon and took a bite.  Then another and another.  His eyes turned to me and with his mouth full of warm apple crisp proclaimed, “THIS IS IT!”  I was thrilled!  Once he swallowed and then continued to go for another bite, he asked where I found the recipe.  I simply stated, “I finally just created my own.”

This dessert truly comes together in no time and I would bet you already have most or all these ingredients in your pantry.  I love how you can see the apples peeking through and you are going to have a hard time resisting dipping a spoon into the bubbly syrup this makes!

What I love most about comforting foods is that they are never complicated and made with the most simple of ingredients.
