Hootanany Cake6 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
( I also added a good pinch of sugar)
Preheat oven to 400ยบ. Place 6 TBSP of real butter in a 9x13 pan. Place in oven to let butter melt. In the meantime, mix remaining ingredients in a blender. Pour batter into hot melted butter and bake for 15-20 minutes. It will puff up so don't be worried. Cool slightly, cut into squares and serve with maple syrup or berries. Top off with powdered sugar!
Do you remember Pudding Pops as a kid? They were right up there with B i g S t i c k s in my book! They were discontinued for quite a few years and now they are back. However, they are pretty expensive and since we are on a budget and I like a challenge (mostly food challenges...not life challenges!) I thought I could just make them myself. I have had these popsicle molds for years and they have been good to me. Even better that I bought 5 sets for a $1 each at Target! I made these for about $.12 each! (I got my jello on sale!)
Pudding Pops1 4oz. box of pudding (your favorite flavor)
2 cups cold milk
Whisk together until just incorporated. You want to be quick with this next part because you don't want it to set up in the bowl. Using a measuring cup (for an easy pour) fill your molds to the top and snap on your lid/stick. Freeze for 5-7 hours.
*You can also use small paper cups and popcicle sticks if you do not have molds. Just freeze your mixture for about an hour before you place the stick in the middle. You can also use two different flavors (I had vanilla and chocolate on hand, but I think banana and chocolate would be divine!) Mix up your first flavor first and pour into mold until half full. Freeze for one hour and then mix up your next flavor and fill the rest of the way up.
So if you feel like your life is not complete without popsicles molds, here is your chance to win some. They aren't fancy, but they sure are fun. I have enjoyed them every summer for the past 7 years!
**Leave me a comment of what your favorite summer food is....slushes, pasta salads, grilled meats or vegies...my personal favorite is ice cold watermelon! If you can, I would love it if you would share the recipe as well! I will pick a winner Tuesday (the 9th) morning so you have until Monday at midnight to enter!

Your pudding pops look Yummy!
My favorite summer food is a nice big burger hot off the grill with cheese. (Great- now my mounth is watering!)
ice cold grapes, edamame, bacon wrapped little smokies, creamy spinach and artichoke dip, frogs eyes salad and JELL-O. lots and lots of cold jell-o and cool whip. hey btw, we made your cake cookies - we used a LEMON cake batter and a tub of vanilla whipped frosting with a few squirts of lemon juice. if you like lemon, these are refreshing and delish!
Watermelon!!!!! Now that I'm back in the "south" I always have one in my fridge during summertime!!!
We used to have those molds when I was growing up. Mom would always fill them up with kool-aide!
Your hootanany cake recipe is German Pancakes! So let me tell you a yummy trick with them (this is our favorite breakfast)! Put strawberry or cherry yogurt on top. I promise you'll love it! Any yogurts work those just are the best in our opinion! In fact we are having our Scrapfest here in Park City and that's our breakfast tomorrow morning!
oooo, might need to try that cake this weekend...yummy!
and i love pudding pops, off to see if i used up all the pudding...and find my jello molds (i have a set of tupperware ones that mom used when i was little and a target set, too.) i haven't made them since last summer...
and i love how the chair turned out! we have an oak table (nothing fancy) with black chairs...
oh and p.s. i love home-made ice cream. the kids and i made some last year in a bag...cookies and cream! yummy!
{you don't need to enter me for this one, either! ;0) }
I'd have to second home-made icecream. However, now that I live in Houston, I'm pretty sure summer lasts all year...
I have two fab summer favorites! Strawberry Pretzel Salad and Paradise Bakery Pasta Salad!!! Both great any time of year but definitely for your next barbeque get together. Both are always requested when our group gets together!!
I'll email you both recipes!
I bought some popsickle molds earlier this year because of some popsickles you made last summer. They are so fun! However, I have become a snowcone-aholic this summer. We make snow cones daily (sometimes multiple times a day) and are always pouring new things on them as flavors. Today's flavor was caffeine free diet coke. So snow cones are my summer weakness.
I love berry cake, but not as much as Jimmy. One box of white cake mix (plus ingredients called for), one bag of berries (mixed or whatever), 2 T of butter, 1/2 cup of sugar. Make cake batter according to directions, pour half batter into pan and bake about 15 minutes. While baking combine berries, butter and sugar in pan, simmer 10 minutes. Pour berries on top of baked cake, then top with remainder of batter and bake an additional 15-25 minutes (until golden brown). Once completely cooled top with favorite icing (we use buttercream). Yummy!! Okay now i want those pudding pop molds!!
Hootanany Cake is actually called German Pancakes! And i love them :)
I make a fun dessert. It's Sandie's surprise.
Graham Cracker crust (graham and melted butter)
add prepared chocolate pudding on top of cooled crust.
mix 2 c whipped cream and set aside
Fold in can of crushed pineapple with the whipped cream and add on top
slice bananas on top of that, and add another small layer of the crushed pineapple and whipped cream.
VERY yummy. I use skim milk, for pudding and whipped cream.. so it's also low fat.
It's a yummy and popular dessert, that's very light for summer eating.
Hey Amy...Those pudding pops look awesome!!! I'm definitly gonna make some of those this summer:o) Ummm...my favorite summertime foods are homemade icecream, frozen grapes, fresh fruit, and anything off the bbq! Now I'm officially hungry:o) Have a great week!
My favorite summer food would have to be the icee/snowcone! Can't get enough of it on a hot day!
Summer time is for bbq steaks outside with baked pototoes, corn on the corn, and for dessert--Poke cake--lime jello inside with white cake and cool whip.
So, I totally made this while it was at Jenn's. It was very luxury. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
http://anickh.blogspot.com/2012/06/puff-up-pancake.html we live off hootenanny pancakes!!! and i always use the full amount of butter. we actually use 8 Tablespoons not 6. But either way works!!
