Some of what I thought vs. what I said.
(Please read all the way to end!)

*That’s hideous. - “Oh, that’s too bad they didn’t have your size in stock.”

*We’ve only been to 2 stores and we’re going in 7 more. - “Let’s just pop into the next store and see if they have something better.”

*I literally took you all the lunch place you wanted to go to, stop complaining. - “Did you get enough to eat at lunch? It seems like you enjoyed it!”

*Of course you need new underwear! You’ve lost so many pairs I don’t even want to think about how or why. - “It just feels better to have fresh clothes walking into school the first week. I can pick it for you if you don’t.”

*I wish I had girls. I wish I had daughters, maybe we should have tried again and gotten a daughter. -“Anyone want to get a fun little drink or snack?

*You’re being a butthead. - “You’re being a butthead.”

I absolutely love my boys. Teenagers are actually really fun. It was torturous getting them out the door.

Here’s why I did it though. My husband and I are really big on teaching them life skills.

Shopping is a life skill. While we’re were out, I talked with them on how to pick their sizes, quality of fabrics, how things are made, is it worth the cost, how to check the sales rack, talking with the employees and what to do at checkout.

We really did end up having a good day. They all felt great in the items they picked.

So it’s really not about getting new things to make you feel better. I was (hopefully) building their confidence by teaching them something they’ll need for the rest of their life.

New underwear is never negotiable, though!

Making an Italian dinner? Search Dinner in Tuscany.

Serving Mexican? Look up Taco Tuesday playlist.

A little Americana dinner? Nancy Meyers dinner party.

But my little teeny tiny secret to get the dishes done when you just don’t want to….find a 50’s Housewife Grocery Shopping playlist. I can do the dishes all day long!

I won’t ever make this Disney mistake again.

Do you know of that little popcorn cart in DCA?

The one that makes the world’s best caramel popcorn?

I made the mistake of not buying a few boxes of it on our last day so I could BRING IT HOME with me!!

It’s so buttery and delicate. One of the most incredible treats there IMO.

All the places I could think you could enjoy some chocolate and strawberries! Just let it sit in the sun for a bit.

I’ve seen the Reels where you can leave out an entire chocolate bar in the heat, then dip your strawberries in it.

This way, just made a little bit more sense. And less messy.
